Feb 18th Meeting Poll

Our next meeting will occur on Ash Wednesday, so we thought to add a poll to see how many are interested in a vegetarian option on the lunch entree’ in addition to the traditional lasagna. Answer below by Monday Feb 16th.

ARTICLE VI – MEETINGS

The Pee Dee GIS User Group will meet quarterly for a total of four meetings throughout the year. The Pee Dee GIS User Group will hold at least one business meeting each year. Minutes of all meetings will be documented and distributed by the communications officer. Door prizes awarded during the meeting are limited to active members not having won a major prize during the past 8 meetings and not currently serving as officers or on special purpose committees. A major prize is classified as one valued at more than 100.00, those winning prizes with less than this value are exempt from this limitation.

Call for Ideas open through January 30

The program committee is reviewing ideas submitted and crafting an exciting lineup for you to share knowledge among your peers. Its not too late to submit your idea!

This could be a 5 or 10 min discussion of a recent map, application, analysis or larger project you may have worked on recently that you feel should be shared.

Presenters appreciate the feedback they receive after presenting and are able to better refine their craft from the experience sharing with peers. Also, presenters are able to share knowledge that could save audience members hours of effort.

Workshop Announcement – Enterprise GIS Basics

This workshop will explain the implementation and management of an Enterprise GIS using datasets/information from diverse sources in a variety of formats.

In this workshop, the roadmap will be outlined with associated documentation and samples, and the time and cost saving tips, lessons learned will be shared with participants to consider when building an Enterprise GIS for their organization.

Presentation ideas submitted include python scripting for annexation process improvement, utilities mapping program, building street and address datasets, challenges in web app development while browser technology is shifting, public safety common operating viewers, story maps – a city perspective, quick-tips for geocoding spreadsheets.

Also, a variety of Esri Staff presentations such as What is New at 10.3, ArcGIS Pro and Mobile Data Collection Best Practices will be offered.

The final agenda will be announced early to mid-February.

Job Title:                     Floodplain/GIS Technician

Report to:                    Planning-Building-Zoning Director

Department:               Planning-Building-Zoning

Salary Range:            $32,000 to $52,000

 

Summary:Under general supervision, performs day-to-day support of the GIS (Geographical Information Systems) ensuring that all data and databases are maintained and consistently updated/edited to help the workflow of multiple departments. Performs fieldwork to capture data for GIS and develops and manages spatial databases and mapping. Maintains the FIRM’s (Flood Insurance Rate Maps).Assists in the coordination of FEMA’s CRS (Credit Rating System).Acts as liaison for the census.Works closely with the public to provide customer service for flood information and GIS.Reports to the Planning, Building and Zoning Director.
